The decorations are up, the tin of Quality Street is out, and we’ve all picked up our December copies of the Radio Times – it must be nearly Christmas at Florit Brooke HQ.
The last few weeks have seen us attending a flurry of festive events and industry gatherings, from quizzes to parties to networking events, with a cheeky Secret Santa swap thrown in. It’s been a whirlwind of a month, but it’s a real reminder of why we love what we do, and how friendly and collaborative the Yorkshire legal scene can be.
So, what has December had in store for Florit Brooke?
Leeds Law Society’s Christmas networking event
Tuesday 6th December saw some of the Florit Brooke team enjoying a sociable evening at Leeds Law Society’s annual Christmas networking evening – open to all legal professionals in the Leeds area. We enjoyed the opportunity to relax and connect with clients and industry friends over a few drinks and seasonal snacks at Bill’s restaurant.
The Yorkshire C&I Charity Christmas Quiz
On Wednesday 7th December, we invited members of the Yorkshire Commerce and Industry Group to join us for the annual C&I Charity Christmas Quiz Night, with the evening’s proceeds going to St. Gemma’s Hospice, the Yorkshire C&I Group’s chosen charity.
In-house legal professionals from across the county joined us at the Leeds Club for an evening of conundrums, fiendish general knowledge questions and a picture round or two – without a single legal question on the cards. The evening’s winners were the ‘Quizzly Bears’ – the team name chosen by HSBC’s legal contingent in Leeds – who scored 83 and a half points and took home the grand prize: a mixed case of wine. One of DLA Piper’s teams took the runners-up spot with 80 points, and the Florit Brooke team’s heroic efforts saw us come joint third – although we attribute much of our success to some much-needed pointers from the St Gemma’s Hospice fundraising representative Maggie Poppa, who put us to shame on her pop knowledge!
The York JLD Christmas party
The York Junior Lawyers’ Division Christmas party on December 8th has
been a particular highlight in our festive calendar this year. Taking place at Plonkers Wine Bar & Bistro overlooking the River Ouse, it was a relaxed gathering where guests could enjoy a free drink, a hot buffet, and a chance to catch up with other legal professionals based in York. We had a superb evening, enjoying excellent company, drinks and festive nibbles aplenty, and the truly spectacular Christmas jumpers on show for the festive sweater competition. It was a truly tough call, but our winner of the evening was Chris Riley of Harrowells Solicitors (pictured, with Tony Brooke) – nothing says Christmas quite like a woolly jumper with a skiing penguin on it…
The Florit Brooke staff Christmas bash
It’s just as well our Christmas do took place on a Friday this year, because we certainly wouldn’t have been keen to drag ourselves into the office the next morning and, as it turned out, some of us would have had a rather longer morning commute than normal (mentioning no names)!
Our day got off to a great start with annual staff Secret Santa swap. Santa certainly hasn’t lost his sense of humour this year, – as some of our photos will bear witness to. There was certainly plenty of ‘ho ho ho’-ing around the office on Friday, and on the way over to 53 Degrees North, where we enjoyed cocktails before our long late lunch at Crafthouse in Trinity, which everyone agreed was truly outstanding, before heading home to bed at a decent hour. Honest…
Season’s greetings to one and all!
Our office will close for the festive break at 1pm on Friday 23rd December and reopen on Tuesday 3rd January. In the meantime, we’d like to wish you and yours a wonderful festive break and all the very best for 2017.
